Speech & Language therapy

At Treehouse Therapies, we view communication as the ladder that allows a child to engage with the world around them. Our speech and language services focus on helping children and teens find their voice and build the confidence to use it. We specialize in helping students navigate the social complexities of their daily lives—whether that’s in the classroom, on the playground, or within the family unit.

From mastering articulation to untangling complex language disorders, we celebrate every breakthrough as a step toward a more independent future.

Our areas of support include:

  • Pragmatic & Social Language: Navigating social cues and fostering authentic connection.

  • Receptive & Expressive Language: Strengthening the ability to understand and use language effectively.

  • Articulation & Phonology: Improving clarity and confidence in speech.

  • Autism-Affirming Support: Building on a child's natural communication strengths.

Feeding & Swallowing Therapy

We understand that for a child to branch out and thrive, their most basic nutritional and developmental needs must first be securely established. Our feeding therapy services are designed to strengthen these essential "roots," helping children inthe West Michigan area develop a safe and positive relationship with food.

With over a decade of specialized experience in supporting medically complex patients, we provide a sturdy foundation for families navigating the challenges of feeding and swallowing. We view mealtime as a collaborative effort and work as tireless advocates for our families, ensuring every goal is met with a personalized plan that respects the child’s unique developmental pace.

Whether your child is navigating complex medical hurdles or requires support with early feeding milestones, we are dedicated to building a foundation of health and confidence at the table.

Our areas of support include:

  • Medically Complex Feeding: Specialized care for children with complex health and developmental histories.

  • Oral Motor Development: Strengthening the foundational skills needed for safe and efficient chewing and swallowing.

  • Early Intervention: Providing support during a child's most formative years to establish healthy long-term habits.

  • Sensory & Behavioral Support: Helping children overcome hurdles related to food textures, aversions, or anxieties.

myofunctional therapy

A strong foundation for communication and health often begins with how the muscles of the mouth and face work together. At Treehouse Therapies, we offer specialized myofunctional support to address the underlying structural and muscular patterns that can impact a child’s speech, breathing, and overall wellness.

Rather than just focusing on the surface, we look at the "structural roots" of oral function. We work with children to correct tongue placement, improve resting mouth posture, and establish healthy nasal breathing habits. By refining these essential movements, we help ensure that the physical building blocks for clear speech and comfortable eating are firmly in place.

Whether your child is struggling with a tongue thrust, mouth breathing, or persistent articulation challenges related to muscle tension, our goal is to create lasting functional change.

Our myofunctional focus includes:

  • Oral Rest Posture: Establishing correct tongue and lip positioning for optimal health and development.

  • Nasal Breathing Advocacy: Supporting the transition to healthy airway habits.

  • Correction of Tongue Thrust: Retraining muscle patterns to improve swallowing and speech clarity.

  • Coordination & Strength: Building the precise muscle control necessary for complex speech sounds.

While speech and language provide the tools for communication, executive functioning is the "air traffic control system" that allows a child to manage their daily life. We help children and teens in West Michigan develop the internal structure they need to navigate academic demands, social interactions, and personal responsibilities with confidence.

We look beyond the surface level of "disorganization" to identify the roots of a child’s challenges in planning, prioritizing, and emotional regulation. By focusing on these core cognitive skills, we empower students to climb toward independence, teaching them how to break down complex tasks and manage their time effectively. Our goal is to help every child build a personalized "toolkit" for success that they can carry with them long after they leave the treehouse.

Our executive function support includes:

  • Planning & Prioritization: Learning how to map out multi-step projects and determine what needs attention first.

  • Task Initiation & Persistence: Developing strategies to start and complete tasks, even when they feel overwhelming.

  • Working Memory & Organization: Strengthening the ability to hold onto information while using it and maintaining an organized environment.

  • Self-Regulation & Flexibility: Building the resilience to manage frustrations and adapt when plans change.

Care strategies

- The sprint

Model: 2-4 sessions/week for 8-12 weeks followed by discharge or extended break

Goal: Rapid skill acquisition or overcoming a plateau of progress

Description: A short-term, high-impact approach designed to build momentum. After 12 weeks, we take a 'Generalization Break' to let your child lead the way and practice their new skills in the real world before we re-evaluate.

- steady growth

Model: 1 session/week ongoing with re-evaluations every 4-6 months

Goal: Mastery of complex skills and long-term developmental support, establishing rapport for long-term intervention

Description: The traditional model for long-term progress. We provide a consistent weekly touchpoint to support your child through various developmental milestones, adjusting our focus as they grow.

- parent-led partnership

Model: 1-2 sessions/month or as-needed scheduling based for monitoring development

Goal: Continuation of skills through parent coaching, "troubleshooting" home routines, or transition support

Description: Ideal for families who have completed a 'Sprint' or 'Steady Track' and are looking for professional guidance on a less frequent basis. We focus heavily on home strategies and environmental tweaks
